Ugh

In a cast for 10 days, re check with x-rays at 10 days, if there are signs of bone growth (indicative of a break) then into another cast for 2 weeks.

Right now she is madder than hell and won't stop crying or attempt to walk with the cast on.

And me? Still freaking mad too. It's not one of my better parenting moments but frankly I don't care right now.

  1. I am so, so sorry, on so many fronts. I'm hoping she'll adapt pretty quickly, as kids so often do. And don't lash out at me if I tell you that's a pretty sweet photo of her. Hoping tomorrow will be a better day; e-mail if it helps to vent!

  4. Oh, poor baby - and poor you! I hope she heels up quickly for both your sakes.

(She is so cute! and looks sweet as can be in that cast, as awful as it is.)

  6. Poor girl! At least it wasn't all the way to the hip, and at least it's only for 10 days at first. Trying to look on the bright side, because otherwise it sucks lots! Hope she'll heal super-fast!

  8. I am so sorry! Our little angel stumbled out of the swing at almost 3 - not a bad stumble, but he cried and cried and cried. After an hour of crying, we headed to the ER - just like you, no visible break. Our pedi - very common sense oriented - said we have to wait 2 wks for healing to begin to see if there was a break. No need to immobilize him because a child that age will protect the injured part.
The poor little thing crawled for that 2 wks, we went back for the X-ray, and there was the calcium lump showing the break. No change of procedure, just let him keep crawling till he felt better. It was only a couple of weeks more, and he was up and running again.
It's hard to think about, but this too shall pass!
Oh - and we decided he must have snagged his foot on an exposed root under the swing to cause him to tumble - just fell on it wrong!

  10. We all have our bad parenting moments, but this one definitely sounds like you have every right to be upset. I hope it starts looking up for you soon.
