Flea Market Finds

This week I went to the flea SURE I was going to buy only Halloween. I bought no Halloween and all quilts. Hmmmm. This is a partial quilt top. (The light was so bad, it was actually cloudy for a few days.)

Another quilt top. Could be N or Z, I am thinking Z based on the length. Rather unusual to see letters, never mind Z!

Glass birthday candle holders.

A flock of wood birthday candle holders.
A quilt that was filthy and wadded up on the floor. Thankfully it's hot as a bugger here right now so It got a wash and a sun. It cleaned up pretty well.

I also had the chance to get in the basement of a friend. I bought a lot from her, including this doll quilt and a lone quilt block. (Clever construction there!)

Halloween!  A sweet flannel costume.
Ornaments (that were not $1 a box.)
And a few random Christmas things.

I am rushing to finish the Halloween quilt, have a birthday party for Grant, make Halloween costumes and go see IT tonight. Busy, busy!

His and Hers quilts

So. These two quilts are the result of a million errors. An entire litany of errors really. A first quilt that failed, a second quilt that I cut WAY, WAY wrong. Then I had a ton of fabric I needed to use up. Som Dave suggested just making two quilts since it was all already cut.

I call them his and hers and they have gone to my MIL and FIL.

They are more civil war repro fabrics (which works well in their cabin.)

And a pattern of my own rough design based on an antique quilt I saw on line. Except this drawing was what it was supposed to have been, and obviously is not.

Two for Tuesday

I was sitting in the yard looking for something on the blog when I scrolled past a pic from Sept 2014 of Sammi in this cat suit. Not even 5 minutes later she can bounding out the door wearing it. heh!  She is such a tiny thing, I can't believe she can still wear this stuff.

They were playing kitties on the hunt.

Flea market Monday

Last week was just so darn exhausting. Dave was really sick, losing a cat, I was totally emotionally empty and really looking forward to the flea. Unfortunately I either wasn't so lucky or I just wasn't in it.  I went through twice because I had hauled myself out there and there had to be SOMETHING to be buy.

That pile above is:
a cast iron cat doorstop
A solid colored quilt top
A piece of garden fencing
Two antique tree stands
A piece of polka dot fabric
and  a set of bird embroideries

Yesterday we said goodbye to Picadilly. At 17 1/2 years old he was still a very sweet old boy, but he'd had a tumor that just kept getting worse and worse and when I was checking him over yesterday morning (like I did everyday), I noticed he'd started to lose control of his bladder now too. Poor sweetie.

We have had these cats since they were born. 17 years is a lot longer than I ever expected to have them, and while I didn't spend as much time focused on them as I did before the kids, they will forever be in my heart as my long time companions.

It's so hard to keep losing one after another. And it's so weird to have just two cats now. I keep looking for the others. :(

Even more halloween paper piecing

witch  (I had some kind of broom problem there, LOL)
chinese lanterns

Carl Frankenstein's Flower  $$ (This is marked as okay for beginners. I have a different feeling about that. Yes, there are no super tiny pieces to deal with, but I found the big pieces really hard to manage because the fabric wants to flop all over the place. Plus, this thing really is a quilt in and of itself. It's nine blocks, most blocks have several sections. There are no seam allowances there, which is also a bit tricky to navigate.)

More Halloween paper piecing

True BloodHaunted House

Something wicked is under my bed  (My nails were getting lost in the stripes so I abandoned them, I wish I hadn't. Maybe. But no going back , these take too long!)
Dr Whooot  (this one is destined to be redone. I just do not like it despite spending two hours on it. Ouch)
Happy Ghost  (She has a lot of cute patterns you could use. Her patterns are also super easy to use!)

Halloween paper piecing

I've been working away on some Halloween paper piecing blocks. I don't know how on earth I will ever have enough to make an entire quilt, but they are sewing for fun instead of on a deadline for a change, and I need that. Most of these patterns can be found for free by googling.  But occasionally I Have paid a few bucks for one I really wanted to have.

I will try and link them all for you!
