Jack is crazy in love with everything "Pons." (translation Thomas.) This is an engine house pop out we picked up for him yesterday. I HATE the latest haircut. I am not sure on what planet this is a "regular comb over boy haircut." I have to put gel in it to make it look decent! Toddlers should not have to use "product".

Jack and I went swimming last week for the first time since he was about 7 months old. He did pretty well. He wasn't overly in love with it, but he wasn't afraid either. Either way, I love the photo. The perfectly blue sky, the blue water of the pool, and my baby looking like a surfer boy!

Hang onto your Lederhosen

Well, Blogger has not been cooperative lately, so I have a lot to share. (I am thinking about moving to a different blog site, but, we shall see.) This is what happens when a mosquito bite goes bad. It started out small, but by the afternoon it was a big as the circle that the doctor made on Jack's leg. The freaking thing was "blinking", and thus necessitated an emergency trip to the doctor on Monday. It is all but gone now, but the doctor said he never seen anything like it. Apparently it was right on a blood vessel, and as the blood was circulating, it caused the "blinking" appearance. It looked just like a firefly was inside his leg. Poor baby.

The playdough is still a big hit. (Jack will sit and play with it for almost an entire hour, that is a blissful break.) He made this caterpillar shape all by himself. (I rolled the balls). The cheesy grin? Well, it's because I taught him to say Cheese! when he gets his picture taken today. So cute!

I bought these letters for Jack at a rummage sale for about $0.25. They each have a Sesame Street photo of something that starts with the letter on them. Jack went right for "E" for Elmo and "I" for ice cream, even though he doesn't like ice cream at all. They are super cute, and it was complete, to my surprise. Jack is interested in learning the names of letters, but is really only good at "S" at the moment.

Totally cute thrifted vintage sheet. I am not sure what I am going to make with it yet, but how could I pass it up? It was even 25% off day!

Back in the beginning of June, we took Jack to Grant's Farm. He loved, loved, loved it! He went into the goat pen with us and gave the goats a bottle. We saw chickens, and guinea pigs, and eagles and elephants, oh my! It was much better than I remember it being as a kid, and Jack soaked up every minute of it. Good Old Fashioned Fun

I saw a bag like this in a recent issue of Country Living (or maybe it was Country Home, I can't tell the difference, lol), and had to make one for myself. I have been rummaging up lots of vintage fabrics this year, and I LOVE how it turned out. Plus, it was an excuse to use a piece of vintage trim I had saved from a long ago used up pillow I bought at Mount Dora in Florida. (I miss junking in Florida.) It is fresh and summery fun, although my photo does not do the fabrics justice.

When I was a kid, I loved going to the church picnic at the Catholic church across the street from my grandma's house. We are lucky to currently a stone's throw from the local catholic church, and this weekend was the annual church picnic. We had so much fun! We ate candy, popcorn and caramel apples. We played games (lollipop tree and duck pond), and Jack rode every ride that a little squirt could ride. He liked the slide (wheeee!), the dinosaurs were just "eh" (look how laid back he looks in that giant barney-esque thing), but the cars, the cars were the hit of the day. He wanted to ride them again and again and again. (And, of course, we let him.)

Jack successfully fed himself his oatmeal this morning. Many thanks to Laura at http://laura.typepad.com/mommapalooza/ for the idea to put the oatmeal into a cup. Being able to hold onto the cup handles made it a lot easier to control what was happening for him. Way to go Jack! (And, I finally figured out how to make photo collage. Way to go Mama!)

In honor of 6-6-06

This is our very old pumpkin. I bought this before Jack was even born (by just a week or so, but, still). It has been sitting on our kitchen counter for almost 2 years now. Inexplicably, it never rotted. Sadly, I discovered the first signs of decay this week. I wanted to take a picture of "her" with our now very big! Jack before we have to bury her in the yard. I will miss you old pumpkin. Fare thee well....

What got me started on all this Halloween stuff is that Dave and I had tickets to the premiere screening of the remake of The Omen last night. It was awesome! We both think it was much, much better than the original. And, despite having seen the original a gazillion times (I think we watched it at least 20 times the week Jack was born, him being a Halloween-ish baby and all), there are plenty of bits that made us jump out of our seats. It is nearly identical to the first as far as the screenplay goes, but it feels much fresher, and much more appropriate given the current state of the union. (For those who aren't in the know, the premise of the movie is that the Anti Christ must be raised by a powerful politician in order to take over the world. I won't spoil the end by telling you who is he raised by though!)

We highly recommend you go see it for some good, middle of the year, scare you out of your pants fun.

Dave and I are junk-a-holics. We forge out into the world every Saturday morning (and Jack and I go alone on Weds or Fridays also), and go "junking." We garage sale, thrift, flea market, rummage, you name it. This morning we went to 6 sales. We were on our way to number 5, not having had very much luck at all, arguing about the way Dave was driving, when we arrived at sale number 5. There we hit the jackpot. We bought all of this GeoTrax stuff (and more actually, if you can believe it), for Jack for 10 bucks. Yeaup, 10 dollars. We already had one train (just a pitiful lonely train) that we paid $20 retail for. You can see how big the AWESOME layout is by how small Jack looks! This thing entertained my train-a-holic son for hours today. I LOVE JUNKING!
