So, it's Feb. 25th and I went to a yard sale this morning.
Oh yes I did. The only thing I bought were some postcards. I display them on top of the television in this photo holder thingy I bought like 10 years ago at Target.

It is killer hard to find cards for St Patrick's Day, so I made a spur of the moment decision and decided to go with horseshoes for St Pattys.

Good wishes works too.

I bought this one purely because it was in German. I think it says something about Birthday wishes at the top. When you translate the bottom portion on Google you get: "lab me everywhere always taste your friendliness." HAHAHAHA! I love on line translators.
Translation is obviously a job meant for humans and not machines.

The bluebird was too sweet to pass up.

More birds and horseshoes.

Changing up the display a bit.

This one makes me laugh too. She is putting the napkin on his lap and the caption says, "Permit me Mr Good."
Postcards are the easiest collection to store. I keep mine in an archival photo album so I can just flip through and pull out ones to display.
A fistful of postcards for 6 bucks. (There were more even!) Not too shabby.
And with that, it's nearly 70 degrees again today (we are having the strangest winter), so I am off to go paint in the sun.
Happy Wednesday!
I'm so jealous of your weather! I have several great finds that I need to spray paint and I don't want to blog about them until they are done, but it won't STOP RAINING here. Its going to be July before I can get these things on my blog!!!!

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI love postcards too. Of course mine scattered hither and yon all over the place in non-archival boxes. I love putting a foreign ebay description into babblefish then belly laughing at the translation:) You get the gist of what they're selling and good laugh to boot!
I was excited because it reached 53 today, so jealous and a yard sale on top of it you lucky girl! YOur tribute to your gma was so sweet. Love the post cards, great deal.
ReplyDeleteHello Sarah,
ReplyDeleteWow! Am just now seeing your blog for the first time so excuse me for commenting out of order.Your button trees are So lovely!!I love the pastel colors. I'm going to try to do something for Easter along those lines. Also loved your post cards. I have one of those thingies also and a book of Easter vintage post cards and a whole BAG of single thingies (might be place card holders)which I can use also!I got those at the thrift store in my town, which is my home away from home. Thrift stores are my True Love and my Evil Addiction, next to reading Blogs and Somersets"Artful Blogging".(just ask my husband!) Well........I'm babbling arn't I? Thanks for the ideas and all the pretty pictures.
These are fabulous! I'm so itching for a yard sale, but I'm thinking that there won't be one here for at least a month, and that's only if the weather warms up which is really just one big question mark. It's looking good right now, but it could definitely still change it's mind. Enjoy your 70 degrees for me!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you hit a yard sale on a WEDNESDAY! Ours are almost always on the weekends. Great postcards...I agree it is hard to find St. Patty's day cards...I got lucky once and got a bunch (future post). Enjoy your glorious weather! Off and on rainshowers here.
ReplyDeleteVery nice haul. Garage sales....I am so jealous. It will be close to 6 weeks before we see them around here. And last year they were truely pathetic! Let's hope for a better year!
ReplyDeleteI've missed seeing what you and Jack are up to. These post cards are lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt's 70 there. You went to a yard sale. You are straining our friendship. Excellent postcards, though.
ReplyDeleteThere is a HUGE yard sale advertised in the local paper today for Friday. HUGE list of vintage items, antiques, linens, housewares, books and scrapbooking things just to mention a few things. Long, long list of items. Hours are 9-2. It just doesn't say what TOWN the &#@% sale actually is IN! Argh!
ReplyDeleteI love the postcards too.
PS It was 75 here today. ;o)
What adorable cards! I wish my BIL were here, I'd have him give you a real translation!
ReplyDeleteI love the postcards. The 'taste your friendliness' bit had me busting a gut.
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe it's that warm there! Enjoy it! I'm just glad I love snow and winter so much, so having it isn't all that bad. I am itching to get outside and do some painting, though! It'll be awhile!
Aww, those are adorable valentines!
